Depth of field is how much the image is in focus or the distance between the nearest and furthest objects in a photo where the closer objects appear very sharp. This is controlled by the aperture and the larger the aperture the narrower the depth of field. If the depth of field is narrow then only a small part of the image is in focus although having a larger depth of field makes everything in focus.
